Family Portrait Resources: Why Golden Hour for Your Photo Session

My favourite time of day for outdoor portraits is 1-2 hours before sunset because of the warm, natural glow of the sun. The light is flattering and because it’s softer it also reduces harsh shadows and the need for squinting (like in bright, mid-day light). My close second favourite time of day is early morning for similar reasons. The sun is still lower in the sky so it’s possible to avoid the harsh overhead sunlight.

Family Session Share: Mount Doug Beach Family Session

We just hit our one year mark living in Victoria, BC and all I have to say is: I love it here. I know that rainy winters aren’t for everyone, but I’ll take it over the cold any day.

As much as I’m loving life here, it was much more of an adjustment moving back to Canada than I had ever imagined. After spending three and a half years immersed in a new culture and way of life, we definitely had some growing pains settling into a new pace of life, but seem to have finally found our footing. The summer weather definitely helps!
