Frequently Asked Questions about Family Sessions | Victoria BC Family Photographer
As a professional family photographer, I know how important it is to have the treasured moments of today to look back on in 5, 10, 20, 30 years. That’s why I’m so passionate about family photography and when families choose me to document their moments for them, I hold this honour very close to my heart.
If you are looking for a Vancouver Island family photographer, then you might have certain questions in mind before booking your photo shoot. To help you get started, I’m answering some of the most common asked questions clients ask me before scheduling their session.
What are the Best Locations for family photography in Victoria BC?
I’m 100% biased, but I think Victoria, BC is absolutely magical and any landscape will add an additional dimension to your family’s captured memories. That being said, some of my favourite locations for family images include:
Island View Beach
Thetis Lake
Elk Lake
Government Gardens
Esquimalt Lagoon
Beaver Lake
These locations are calm, beautiful, and less crowded areas perfect for spending time capturing your family’s photos in Victoria, BC and the surrounding areas.
How do I choose a family photographer?
If you are interested in hiring a family photographer, the best thing to do is look at their portfolio to get a sense of their style to make sure it aligns with the images you want to create. If you think we’re a good fit, please don’t hesitate to reach out so I can send you more information and share some details about my family session options and learn more about the images you’re looking to capture.
What should we wear?
After locations, this is the question I get asked the most! Well coordinated outfits add extra expression to your images so it can be very important to choose outfits for the whole family, but it doesn’t have to be hard — promise!
Adding colours, textures, and layers can provide added dimension to your pictures. Choosing complimentary colours rather than fully matching outfits will help each family member stand out in their own fun and unique way.
Are the images we receive retouched?
The images that you choose from your session are retouched in Erin Clayton Photography’s signature style and delivered to you as full resolution digital files.
Additional retouching requests are included for any print orders.
When and how will I see my photographs?
Within four weeks after your photo session, you’ll receive an online gallery link to view your images and choose your favourite images. You’ll also have a four day 20% off sale to order professionally printed and custom products through your gallery for displaying your images in your home or for gifts. Product options include loose prints (starting at $15 + tax), mounted prints (starting at $28 + tax), and finished wall art (starting at $200 + tax).
I’ll send you a link to download the digital images you choose within one week of your image selection. Print orders take up to 6-8 weeks after you submit your order to arrive.
What if it rains?
If there’s rain in the schedule, we can definitely switch to another day.
What should I do with my images after the photo session?
It can feel a bit daunting to know what to do with all of the images, but I have a few favourite options I love to recommend. Albums are wonderful for displaying 10 or more images that you love from a session, while 2-4 of your favourite images from a session can be a show stopper on your living room walls.

Can we purchase digital files from you?
Yes! A select number of digital images are included in all of my family session packages. If you would like to order more images from your session after viewing your proofs you can do so! Digital image upgrades are also included in your four day 20% off sale that you’ll have access to when first viewing your images.
