Family Portrait Resources: Best Locations in Victoria for Family Photos

Beautiful Outdoor Locations for Family Photos in Victoria

It’s hard to believe how fast the seasons roll by. Now that the Fall season rush is over and it’s time to begin planning Spring sessions, I thought it would be the perfect time to update my list of favourite places to photograph families around the Greater Victoria Area.

Here are my current go-to locations for family photos in beautiful Victoria BC and why I love each spot.

1. Esquimalt Lagoon

Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood, BC is one of my favourite places to capture families in the Spring and Summer. The beach is filled with driftwood and fun things for children to discover and the backdrop is absolutely stunning, too!

I normally recommend this location for early morning sessions (before the sun is too strong), but it’s also a beautiful location right before sunset.

2. Beaver Lake

Beaver Lake a favourite because of the colourful, and always changing backdrop. It’s also a perfect option for families needing a flexible time of day for their photos as the trees in the surrounding area provide quite a lot of shade from a strong sun.

2. Island View Beach

Located just south of Sidney, Island View Beach takes about 20 minutes to get to by car from downtown Victoria, but it’s definitely worth the drive!

The views of the Haro Strait, James Island, Mount Baker and more — coupled with the sandy beach lined with drift logs — creates endless backdrop options in this beautiful location!.

3. Elk Lake Field

If you love tall grasses, a wooded backdrop and beautiful golden hour sessions, Elk Lake Field is one of my faves. This location is also great with small kids because there’s lots of space to play.
